Nepal Solar PV Calculator – Official Android App from Government's Alternative Energy Promotion Center (AEPC)

Alternative Energy Promotion Center (AEPC), Government of Nepal’s initiation on promoting alternative energy in the country, has launched an Android App to facilitate the calculation of solar power PV power requirement for your residence and even offices.

Description (from the App’s listing on Play Store)

A Solar PV system consists of four major components – Solar PV Module, Charge Controller, Battery, and an Inverter. The Solar PV Module generates electricity from sunlight; this electricity is used to charge a battery through the charge controller. Electricity stored in the battery is in the form of Direct Current (DC) and needs to be converted into Alternating Current (AC) using the inverter to power regular household appliances such as light bulbs, Televisions, Computers etc. Appliances that run on DC can be directly connected to the battery without the need for an inverter.

The Following information is important for a Solar PV System:

  1. Maintenance of PV Module: Dust, dirt, bird shit should be cleaned regularly from the panel surface. It is advisable to clean the panels at least once a month and twice a month for dusty areas.
  2. Maintenance of Battery: It is advisable to do visual inspection for electrolyte leakage, cracks in batteries, corrosion at battery terminals etc. The corrosion at battery terminal is seen a white coating around it. The liquid level should not be more than 0.5 inches lower than the top of the battery.
  3. Tilt Angle: Due to the geographic location of Nepal, it is required to tilt the solar panels 30˚ from the horizontal surface to get maximum performance.

This 15MB app can be installed in any devices running Android OS 2.3.3 and above. Offered by AEPC/RERL, give this app try and compute how much power your residence’s need is relying solely on the perpetual solar power supply.
