RADAR in Nepal – what where info?

Well, if you don’t know already what RADAR, commonly named radar these days, is? The full form of RADAR is RAdio Detection And Ranging, by name it is a technology that uses radio waves to detect objects and the range to it.

The other day I was looking for information about RADAR in Nepal, alas, Google got me nothing. Except these realities:

Airport Surveillance Radar ASR site at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu back in 1996. The RADAR was installed by Japan's Toshiba corporation in a Japanese Government's aid to Nepal. Source: Toshiba

  • RADAR Nepal is an INGO in rural Nepal, I can’t link back here as that site is black listed by Google prone to malware.
  • The first search result for RADAR Nepal is nothing but accuweather link to Nepal’s national satellite enhanced weather map – anything to do with RADAR Nepal directly?
  • The Government of Nepal official website of Meteorological forecasting division (http://mfd.gov.np) comes much lower in search result position (SERP ) however sadly MFD got nothing as precise as third party weather providers has.

Owing to the lack of adequate scientific data and poor weather forecasts, not only Nepal but many South Asian countries are not prepared to deal with disasters caused due to changing weather and climate scenarios.
Back in December 2012, Nepal’s Weather department was supposed to have radar for weather accuracy and prediction.
The government of Japan aid provided two new second generation radars, installed at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and Bhattedata of Lalitpur. (Source: eKantipur)
This should bring at least two radars in Nepal as of now. The previous 2012 radar used in TIA was also supplied by Japan’s Toshiba Company in 1998, and it was installed under the grant assistance from the Japanese government.
No follow up on this news progress has been found since 2012. The sole purpose of my query for Radar in Nepal was to have information statistics of the same, if anybody could share, please do so on the comment box below. Thanks.
