Only fair polls can test big parties : CA Poll Concern I

Chairman of Nepal Workers and Peasants party Narayan Man Bijukchche Saturday said the CA polls must be free, fair and impartial. 

Addressing a poll gathering in Dattatraya, Bijukchche said only free polls could test the real strength of the so called big parties. Party’s candidate from Bhaktapur-1, Bijukchche said nobody becomes a communist by carrying guns and keeping the word communist in the party’s name. He said it was betrayal to the people to keep one’s party’s name a communist and serve capitalism.

He said communists vie for a socialist democracy and socialist democracy is the need of the hour for the majority of people.  Party’s candidate from Bhaktapur-2 and central secretary Sunil Prajapati said it was contradictory on the part of Maoists who raised arms for socialism were now against socialism. 

Party’s candidate for Proportional Representation seat Bhairav Risal called people to vote for candidates who stand for socialist democracy. 

Farmer leader Gyan Bahadur Nyachyai chaired the programme. Student leader Ukesh Kawan, among others, highlighted the importance of CA polls.

In Baglung Bazaar, six Nepali Congress cadres were seriously injured when CPN-Unified cadres attacked them at Hugdishir VDC of Baglung yesterday. 

Nepali Congress Baglung unit said a group of 15 CPN-Unified cadres led by Madan Kalamagar attacked the NC cadres at around midnight when the latter were sleeping in the house of Gupta Bahadur Kalamagar at Ward No 7 of the VDC under constituency No 2 of the district. The CPN-Unified cadres used swords, khukuris and iron rods to attack the NC cadres, the party said. 

Dirgharaj Kandel, Tulsiram Kandel, Baburam Chhetri, Birbhadra Kandel, Rajan GC and Prakash Chhetri were seriously injured in the attack. 

Though a helicopter was called to airlift them to Pokhara or Kathmandu for treatment, no helicopter could land there due to bad weather, the party said.

In Gaur, the Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Rautahat branch, yesterday held a rally here to put pressure on stakeholders concerned to conduct the CA polls peacefully. 

The rally was also attended by representatives of various professional bodies including RELEC Nepal, Nepal University Teachers’ Association and Nepal Traders’ Association. The rallyists chanted slogans in favour of peaceful and meaningful polls.

In Ilam, the manpower including the government employees deputed by the Election Commission for April 10 polls have started leaving for their duty station. 

The district election office has started handing over them their appointment letters and other election materials since Thursday. Those employees who have been deputed to remote parts of the district have already left the district headquarters. All election officials have to reach their respective polling centres at least 48 hours before the poll day. 

District election officer Bhaktiram Marasini said his office has already handed over appointment letters and election materials to officials to be deputed to over half of the polling centres of the district. 

A total of 1,508 employees have been mobilized for the polls in Ilam. Each polling centre has at least one polling officer, one assistant polling officer, one supporting staff and a peon. There are 84 polling centres in Constituency No 1, 88 in Constituency No 2 and 81 in Constituency No 3.

Meanwhile, security for each polling centre has also been tightened. Each centre will have three policemen and three temporary policemen. Likewise, APF’s base camps have been set up at various places.

In Nuwakot, spokesperson of Nepali Congress, Arjun Narsingh KC has said his party would be prepared to counteract the threatening and assaults of CPN (Maoist). 

Addressing election rally, organized at Nuwakot constituency No. 1, Spokesperson KC said his party brought CPN (Maoist) into peace process and played guardian’s role but the Maoists became more anarchic and aggressive. 

Central Member of the Party and Coordinator of Election Publicity Committee, Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat said his party was prepared to formulate democratic constitution and stressed that federal system would not be adopted on the basis of castes.

In Damauli, Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Chairperson Kush Kumar Joshi has said that the first and foremost job of businesspersons at the moment is to help hold Constituent Assembly (CA) elections in a successful manner. 

Speaking at a welcome and farewell programme organized here Saturday by Tanahun Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chairperson Joshi said the CA is an epoch-making and golden opportunity for all people, so that entire business community should work in unison to not loose this grand chance.

The economic stability would come only following the political stability in the country, he said, urging the media persons to cover the activities carried out in socio-economic sector with top priority. 

Tanahun Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Shanker Lal Rajbhandari presided over the programme.

In Madhyapur Thimi, Central member of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Surya Bahadur KC said the security situation should be improved to conduct the constituent assembly (CA) election in a peaceful atmosphere.

Speaking at an election gathering organized by the party’s election publicity committee area no 2 at Katunje he expressed his doubt over the fair election in such condition.

Former minister and RPP Central member, Bhuvan Pathak opined that if the CA poll was not held fairly, critical problems would emerge in the country.

e
rights of women in the CA elections.

Party candidate in the Constituency No 2 of the Bhaktapur district, Ram Hari Thapa claimed his victory here.

Also speaking at the programme presided by the party In-charge in the constituency, Kamal Prasad Timalsina was the central president of RPP youth wing, Dipak KC.
